Since October 2024

BrownPOS was started in October 2024 to give Cambodian shops, cafés and restaurants a till built for the way they trade. Every update below is one step of that work.

  1. October 2024BrownPOS started
  2. Versions 0.4 to 0.14The till, back office and restaurant tools, built and tried in four demo shops
  3. NowVersion 0.14, getting ready for the first shops

Version 0.12Latest1

New Restaurant

Guests can see their own bookings and points

A guest can now sign in from your booking box to see their bookings and, if you keep points, their points. They type the e-mail and phone they booked with, then a six-digit code we send to that e-mail. There is no password. Points show once you have seated them at least once.

What changed · 3
  • Bookings are listed as coming up and earlier, with whether the guest came, missed or cancelled.
  • The sign-in answers the same whether or not the details match, so nobody can use it to check who your guests are.
  • A guest who booked without an e-mail is asked to have the restaurant add one.

Version 0.1114

Improved Security & platform

Tighter control of who can do what

A PIN typed at a till no longer opens the back office, and pairing a till or editing outlets needs the back-office sign-in. Only the Owner edits roles, and nobody can give a role with more rights than they hold. Obvious PINs (0000, 1234, 1111) are refused when set, and an owner can clear a PIN lock.

Improved Restaurant

A split bill always adds up to the bill

Splitting a table equally, by items or by amount now gives parts that add up exactly to the bill, with the odd cent going to the first parts. An item added after "split by items" goes on the first part not yet paid, so it can no longer fall off the bill.

Fixed Security & platform

Safer exports and printouts

Exported files can no longer run a formula when they are opened in Excel, and a customer's name can no longer break a printed statement.

Improved Back office

Stock, suppliers and customers behave

Opening stock typed with no cost now takes one, so margin is no longer 100%. A transfer on the road can be taken back, and one that arrives short tells the owner. A supplier payment cannot be more than the bill. Loyalty points are whole points, rounded down. Waiters no longer see customers' phones and addresses. The Telegram day summary says who refunded and voided.

Fixed Restaurant

Online booking handles more

Opening hours that run past midnight now take bookings. Two guests choosing the same time at once are both given a table, and one visitor can no longer hold every table. A new shop's desk does not double-book until the shop says so.

New Restaurant

Seat a late guest at another table

When a no-show turns up late and their table has been given away, the desk can now pick another table for them. A table with fewer seats than the party shows a warning first, and still lets you go ahead.

Improved Restaurant

Tables and the kitchen, tidied

A table has one open bill, and items two waiters send together print once. Closing a shift tells you how many tables are still open. Kitchen tickets work with Tables as well as Counter service, and a station on "Food" also takes the categories inside it. "Cancelled after sending" follows your business day, and Khmer table names work.

Fixed Till

No more "Offline" while the server is there

A quiet till now checks in with the server every 20 seconds, so it no longer shows Offline after half a minute of nobody touching it. Sales rung up in that moment no longer wait to be sent.

Improved Till

Discounts are judged together

A line discount and a cart discount can no longer add up past your limit without a manager. When a manager is needed, they are asked once for the whole sale, not once for every discount.

Fixed Till

A refund gives back exactly what was paid

A full refund no longer comes out a cent more or less than the customer paid, in dollars or in riel. Two tills can no longer refund or void the same sale at the same moment.

Fixed Till

Offline sales are not lost when something changed meanwhile

A sale rung up offline at an old VAT rate is now taken instead of refused. A sale the server must refuse is kept whole on the Decisions page, where you can post it anyway.

Improved Till

A product with no tax rate gets the shop's default rate

In a VAT-registered shop, a product left on "The shop's default rate" is now charged that rate, at the till and on the server. Before, it was sold with no VAT at all.

What changed
  • A product you meant to leave untaxed now needs a 0% tax rate such as Exempt, chosen on the product.
Improved Back office

Every shop has a $50 write-off limit

A customer debt written off above the limit now needs the owner. The limit starts at $50 for every shop, and you can change the number in Settings. Every write-off also sends a Telegram alert, so the owner always hears about it.

New Back office

Limit a person to their own outlets

A person assigned to certain outlets now sees and changes only those, starting with stock, sales, reports and outlets. Someone with two or more outlets picks one to work in.

Version 0.1042

Fixed Till

Fixes to opening a shift, picture errors and two links

Opening a shift just after the connection comes back now carries on with the shift the register already has, instead of starting a second one. A picture the back office cannot read now says so in red, not in the green of "Picture saved". The "All the news" and "All questions" links on the home page are bigger to tap.

Fixed Till

The Day summary shows the server's figures straight away

Opened in the first moments after the till starts, the Day summary used to say Offline and show only this till's sales, and kept saying so. It now updates by itself as soon as the till reaches the server.

Improved Till

A refund needs a manager's PIN

A cashier can no longer hand money back on their own. Every refund now asks for a manager's PIN, the way a void or a big discount already does, so a refund is always signed off by someone you trust.

What changed
  • Owners and managers can still refund directly. A custom role copied from Cashier keeps whatever you gave it.
New Payments

Charge a bill to a guest's hotel room

If your shop is in or beside a hotel that uses OtelCloud, a cashier can put the bill on the guest's room instead of taking payment. The till asks the hotel who is in the room first, so a bill never lands on the wrong guest.

What changed · 3
  • Connect your hotel once in the back office; until then the Charge to room button does not appear on the till.
  • The till shows the room and the guest's name for the cashier to confirm before anything is charged, and the receipt names the room and the guest.
  • If the hotel cannot be reached the bill is kept and tried again. If the hotel refuses it, it appears on the Decisions page, where you move it to the customer's account or void the sale.
Fixed Till

Fixes from a full check of the shop

A full check of the live till and back office turned up a number of small faults. These are put right.

What changed · 4
  • With no printer chosen, "preview on screen" now shows the receipt, and two offline messages now say in plain words what is wrong.
  • One browser tab runs a till at a time, so two tabs can no longer share one queue of sales.
  • No item can be priced above $100,000, and a sale sent twice is refused by name and shown on the Decisions page.
  • In a shop that adds VAT on top, a refund gives the customer back the VAT they paid.
Improved Back office

Rename a category, or take it away

A category can now be renamed. Taking one away moves its products to Uncategorised, and its name can be used again.

Improved Till

Things sold per piece are sold whole

A product sold per piece can no longer be sold by the half: the quantity box on the till takes whole numbers only, and the server refuses a fraction. Products sold by weight or by measure keep their decimals.

New Till

A very large sale asks a manager's PIN

A sale above your limit now needs a manager's PIN before it can be paid, which catches a slipped decimal or a wrong quantity before it becomes a sale. The limit starts at $5,000 and you set it in the back office under Settings, Sales & stock.

Improved Till

Riel cash is rounded once, on the whole bill

When a customer pays in riel cash, the bill is rounded once to a whole 100៛, however many notes pay it, so the change no longer differs from one way of paying to another. A bill never rounds down to nothing: the least you can be asked for in riel cash is 100៛.

Improved Back office

The tax report shows before VAT, the VAT, and the total

For each tax rate the report now gives your sales before VAT, the VAT itself and the total with VAT, with what was returned and voided beside them. A figure called net sales no longer quietly includes the VAT.

Improved Back office

Refunds and voids come off your net sales and profit

What you hand back to customers, and every voided sale, is now taken off your net sales, your tax and your margin. Reports show the refunded and voided amounts in their own columns, so nothing is hidden.

Improved Till

The drawer asks why when it closes out

When a cashier closes the drawer and the cash is short or over by any amount, the till now asks why, with a few quick answers or a note of their own. The reason is kept with the shift and shown in your shift variance report.

New Restaurant

Take bookings without the Restaurant menu

Table reservations now works on its own. Set your opening hours and draw your tables inside Reservations, and the booking box offers times as soon as both are saved.

What changed · 4
  • Reservations → Hours & tables now has your opening hours, Monday first, with Use Monday’s hours every day.
  • Draw your tables opens the floor plan right there, and Back to Hours & tables brings you back when you are done.
  • Until your hours are saved, the page tells you plainly that the booking box reads every day as closed.
  • If you also have the Digital Menu, it is the same set of hours: change them in either place and both agree.
Fixed Restaurant

The bookings sheet prints your own time

The printed bookings sheet said when it was printed in UTC, seven hours behind Phnom Penh. It now shows your own time, like every other printed page.

Improved Back office

Printed pages keep their margins, whatever your printer says

Reports, customer statements, invoices, the till’s day summary, the floor plan and the bookings sheet now keep a clean white border on every page, even when the print window is set to no margins.

What changed · 4
  • A long report keeps its border at the top and bottom of every page, not only the first and the last.
  • With your print window’s margins on, each page still carries the report’s name and its page number.
  • Invoices no longer lose their number and total off the right edge.
  • Reports, statements and the floor plan PDF no longer print a “Made with BrownPOS” line — the paper is yours.
Fixed Back office

Back office fixes

Small things shop owners ran into, now put right.

What changed · 5
  • A till you pair shows in Outlets & tills straight away, without reloading the page.
  • Price on label fits on a tablet screen when you print labels.
  • A damaged photo you upload gets a plain sentence saying so, not an error page.
  • Error messages read as plain sentences, without a machine code in front of them.
  • Stock valuation, cost of goods and purchase order totals now round weighed items to the nearest cent, instead of coming out a cent short.
Improved Till

A refused action, explained in plain words

When the server turns something down, the till now shows only the plain reason and what to do next. The technical details are still there behind Show details, for when we ask for them.

Fixed Till

Till fixes

On a tablet, the buttons beside Pay keep their full names.

What changed
  • Park, Recall, Price check, Sales, Open drawer and Cancel sit three across where there is room and two where there is not, without cutting a word short.
Improved Back office

Import products in three clear steps

Importing products from a CSV file now works like importing customers: numbered steps, drop your file in, download a template, and a clear list of anything that needs fixing.

What changed · 2
  • The screen lists all 16 columns you can import, not only some of them.
  • A note the server gives only for your information no longer stops the import.
Improved Back office

Set your Telegram alerts in plain words

Each of the eight alerts you can tune now opens in place with a box named the way the alert reads — a percent, a dollar amount, a currency pair — and Use the usual number puts it back.

Improved Back office

Needs a decision: everything waiting, on one page

What your tills could not finish on their own now sits on one page in three views — Waiting, Dealt with and Let go at a till — so nothing is lost and every decision is on the record.

What changed · 3
  • Search, and filter by outlet or by kind.
  • Pick several and settle them in one go, with one note.
  • When nothing is waiting, the page says so plainly.
Improved Till

The till says when an update is ready, and waits for you

A new version downloads in the background while you serve. When it is ready a strip under the header says so, with a full-size Reload button — and nothing reloads until someone presses it.

What changed · 5
  • A new version downloads quietly while you serve. Nothing on the screen changes until Reload is pressed, so a reload never lands in the middle of a sale.
  • The strip takes the shape of the bar above it: rounded and set in from the edges on Register this terminal, and right across the screen on a till that is signed in and selling.
  • Reload is a full-size button with a refresh mark, sized for a thumb on a screen that is touched all day, and it stands clear of the strip in dark mode as well as light.
  • A download mark in a circle with one slow ring going out of it, so a waiting version reads as news from across the counter rather than as an alarm.
  • Nothing blinks: one soft light drifts across now and then, behind the words. If the device is set to reduce motion, the strip sits still, as the rest of the till does.
Improved Back office

Outlet and till limits, explained before you click

New outlet and Pair a till now disable themselves the moment you are at your package's limit, with the reason beside them and a link to Billing — instead of a refusal after you have already filled in the form.

Fixed Website

Your QR menu shows again, wherever you frame it

A security change meant to protect the site had quietly stopped your menu appearing when framed inside your own website. It is fixed, and your booking box was never affected.

Fixed Till

A dropped connection no longer loses your shift

If your tablet reloads in the middle of a shift, the till picks up exactly where it left off instead of asking you to open a new one.

What changed · 2
  • A sale sent the moment your connection drops is never left stuck; the till sends it again the next time it can reach the server.
  • Sending it twice is always safe — the server only ever takes it once.
Improved Till

A calmer first run for a new till

Register this terminal now looks like the rest of the till — a welcome, the registration code, a device name, and you are selling.

What changed
  • Ask your manager for the code from Back office → Settings → Outlets & tills.
New Security & platform

Your sign-ins are watched for repeated guessing

Too many wrong passwords in a row locks that sign-in for a while, and BrownPOS is told the moment it happens — nobody at your shop needs to watch for it.

What changed · 2
  • Locked for fifteen minutes on the first ten, an hour after that, a day after that — the lock lifts itself, nobody has to ask.
  • It clears itself when the time is up; if you need it sooner, we can lift it from our side.
Improved Back office

Staff, read as a list of people

Your team's page now reads like the people on it: a face in the role's colour, the name, the role and outlets as pills — and the whole row opens the person.

What changed · 2
  • Suspended people sort to the bottom of the list and read dimmed.
  • On a phone, each person's card stacks under their name instead of a table you scroll sideways.
New Payments

Choose which ways to pay your till offers

From Settings → Payments & KHQR, switch off a way you don't take, rename your card machine, add a bank app, and put them in the order your cashiers reach for.

What changed · 2
  • Cash and exchange credit always stay on, since a till needs them to give change.
  • Removing a way you added is only allowed before it has ever taken money; once it has, it switches off instead, and stays on the record.
New Back office

Reset your password by e-mail

Forgot your back office password? A six-digit code goes to your e-mail, good for ten minutes, and you are straight back in once you use it.

What changed · 3
  • Forgot password? on the sign-in screen, beside the password.
  • Changing your sign-in e-mail sends a code to the new address; the old one is told once it is done.
  • An e-mail tells you whenever your password changes, so you know if it wasn't you.
New Restaurant

Take bookings on your own website

A booking box for the website you already have, writing straight into one diary that the back office and the till both read. No commission to anybody for a table in your own restaurant.

What changed · 7
  • Paste one line into WordPress, Wix, Shopify or plain HTML — or use the link and a printed QR.
  • The box takes your colour, sits as a card or with no edges, and grows to the width you choose.
  • Say what you ask guests for: the e-mail and the note can each be left out, asked for, or insisted on.
  • The table is held while the guest types their name, so a time cannot be sold twice.
  • The diary, a searchable list, tonight’s floor, and the rules in Hours & tables — all in the back office.
  • At the till, tonight’s bookings are grouped into late, here now and coming; seat a party in one tap.
  • The bell tells you when bookings came in from your website that nobody here has taken.
Improved Till

Nothing on the booking screen happens on one tap

Seating a party, writing one off or calling one off all ask first, and each question names the booking it is about.

What changed · 3
  • Seating used to just happen. It is the button on every row, on a screen being touched all night.
  • The guest, the time, the party and the table are shown on a slip inside the question.
  • A booking’s menu now reads the guest’s name as a name, not as a table code.
New Restaurant

Turn room pieces to any angle

Walls, doors, windows, the bar and every other piece of the room can stand at an angle.

What changed · 3
  • Drag the round knob above a piece, in 15° steps, or freely with Shift held.
  • Pick 45°, 90° or another angle from its right-click menu or its details, or press Shift R.
  • The till’s Tables screen draws each piece at the same angle.
New Till

Manager approval in a proper window

When a cashier needs a manager’s say-so, a window opens over the screen that asked, in plain words.

What changed · 3
  • It says what is being asked and who is asking.
  • The manager picks their own name and types their PIN on the keypad, or on the keyboard.
  • It works the same on the sale, the Tables screen and the shift.
Improved Website

A fuller website

More to read, and real screens from four demo shops on every page.

What changed · 5
  • Meet SorryBuy Mart, Sanriya Café, Mekong Table and Makod Khmer Cuisine on the Demo shops page.
  • Five new guides in News, including how to draw your floor plan.
  • A new About page, a Contact page with every way to reach us, and one form style everywhere.
  • On the home page, see the till in each of its looks, and a tour of the floor plan from the back office to the till.
  • The Digital Menu’s settings, a slide each, on the QR menu page.
Improved Back office

Lighter photos

Every photo you upload is kept in a lighter format, so the till and your menu load faster.

What changed · 2
  • JPEG photos are stored as WebP.
  • Photos you uploaded before were converted too.
Fixed Back office

Back office fixes

Sales, money and the menu preview made right.

What changed · 4
  • Dollar amounts group their thousands everywhere, such as $10,180.49 on the dashboard.
  • A sale names the ways it was paid, such as Cash USD, says Completed or Refunded in words, and gives its business day as a date.
  • The Sales page opens on today even in the early morning.
  • The Digital Menu’s live preview no longer hides the shop’s name behind the phone’s notch.
Improved Back office

A customer’s ledger in plain words

Each line of a customer’s account says what it was.

What changed · 3
  • Credit sale, Payment, Adjustment or Reversal, instead of an internal word.
  • The way they paid by your shop’s own name for it, such as Cash USD or ABA PayWay.
  • The printed statement reads the same way.
Improved Back office

Reports that read like money

Every amount in the reports is written the way you would write it.

What changed · 3
  • Thousands are grouped and a minus comes before the currency.
  • Riel shows in riel, and each drawer difference in its own currency.
  • The dashboard and daily summary name each way of paying instead of showing its code.
Fixed Till

Till fixes

Small things made right.

What changed · 4
  • A replacement till carries on its register’s sale numbers instead of starting again at 1.
  • Sync notices speak in plain words instead of codes.
  • The shop’s name prints in bold at the size of the lines under it.
  • The card that opens over a table shows the time it sat down in full, with its AM or PM.
Improved Till

Opening the till from the back office

Open the till takes you to a till for the very shop you are in.

What changed · 3
  • A new till picks a free register by itself, so no empty registers pile up.
  • A till paired to another shop asks before it switches.
  • A till that was removed from the shop says so, and keeps its unsent sales for a manager to see.
Improved Till

Sign-in that fits any team

Staff on the sign-in screen are grouped by what they do, and stay compact however many there are.

What changed · 3
  • Owners and managers first, then cashiers, waiters, kitchen and stock.
  • Each person shows their position in words, never a code.
  • The PIN keypad appears under the person you pick, with Not you? to change.

Version 0.911

New Back office

Store credit vouchers

Give a customer credit they can spend at the till, and always know what’s left.

What changed · 3
  • Issue a voucher with its own code, for anyone or for one customer.
  • Find a voucher by its code and see every time it was used.
  • See how much store credit is still waiting to be spent.
New Payments

Your own payment QR on the receipt

Customers can scan to pay straight from the bill or the receipt.

What changed · 3
  • Upload the QR from your ABA, ACLEDA or other bank app in Settings › Shop › Receipt.
  • Print it on bills, receipts or both.
  • Choose small, medium or large for the QR and for your logo.
New Till

A day summary worth reading

The Day summary now shows how the day went, not just the totals.

What changed · 3
  • Sales by hour, top items and each cashier’s total.
  • Today compared with yesterday at a glance.
  • Save it as a JPG or PDF, or print it from a computer.
Fixed Till

Till fixes

Small things that got in the way.

What changed · 2
  • The logo uploaded for receipts now prints.

  • Send stock to another branch and follow it until it arrives.
  • Order from suppliers, receive against the order, and record and pay supplier bills.

Version 0.814

New Restaurant

Draw your floor plan as your room is

What changed · 4
  • Square, round and long tables in any size, with their chairs drawn around them.
  • Walls, doors, windows, the bar, a counter, the kitchen, plants, stairs, restrooms and your own labels.
  • Zoom in and out, snap to a grid, undo a move, and tidy the tables back into rows in one tap.
  • Everything is saved as you go.
New Restaurant

Split bills and merge tables

Guests can pay separately, and two tables that join can become one bill.

What changed · 4
  • Split a bill by items, equally two to eight ways, or by amount.
  • Each part is paid as a sale of its own; the table closes when the last part is paid.
  • Merge one table into another: guests and items move over, and what the kitchen has stays sent.
  • New reports: tables by day with guests, spend per guest and time at the table; tables by waiter; items taken off after sending.
Improved Back office

Digital Menu, Floor Plan, Modifiers, Kitchen Printers and Service Settings each have a card that says what it is for.

Improved Restaurant

  • Drag a table’s guests onto a free table to move them, or onto an open table to join the two bills.

Improved Back office

Photos straight from your phone

What changed · 3

  • Kitchen staff see the tables and can only mark rounds served.
  • Everyone who worked tables before keeps doing so.
New Back office

Roles in plain words, from ready-made positions

Decide what each person can do by reading, not by guessing at codes, and start from a position instead of ticking one by one.

What changed · 4
  • Every permission written in words, grouped by where it is used.
  • Start from General manager, Shift manager, Cashier, Waiter, Kitchen, Stock keeper or Accountant, then adjust.
  • Copy a built-in role into one of your own.

  • Cafés and restaurants call the people they serve guests.
  • Sample products to start with: groceries, café drinks with sugar and ice, or a restaurant menu with tables.
  • A new outlet starts as the same kind of place.

Version 0.714

New Restaurant

Draw your floor plan in the back office and run your tables from the till’s new Tables screen.

What changed · 6
  • Areas and tables in Restaurant › Floor Plan.
  • Open a table for a number of guests, add items and send them to the kitchen in rounds.
  • See at a glance which tables have waited too long or have items not sent yet.
  • Move a party to another table, print the bill and take payment.
  • Taking off an item the kitchen already has needs a reason and a manager’s approval.
  • A QR card for each table, so the guest menu knows which table it is.
New Restaurant

Restaurant section and digital menu

Cafés and restaurants get their own Restaurant section, starting with a digital menu guests open by scanning a QR code at the table.

What changed · 7
  • A menu per outlet, always in step with the till: sold-out items show as sold out.
  • A short custom link, and the QR code saved as PNG or SVG or printed as a table card.
  • One menu colour chosen by the owner, starting from a standard restaurant colour.
  • Khmer names first and slightly larger, or English first, or English only.
  • Opening hours, guest Wi-Fi, phone, address and map, Telegram and Facebook, each shown only if the owner wants it.
  • A Book a table button through the shop’s phone or Telegram.
  • Light, dark or automatic colour mode for guests, on phones, tablets and computers.
Improved Back office

Ask for a package from your Subscription page

Owners now ask BrownPOS for a different package, and our team sets it up with them, instead of switching on their own.

What changed · 3
  • Say why, when you would like it to start and how to reach you.
  • The Subscription page shows your dates, how to pay and how much of each limit you use.
  • Compare packages starting from the one you are on, with what each adds or takes away.
New Till

Order numbers and kitchen tickets

Counter orders now get a number like A-027, and each kitchen station gets a ticket of its own on its own printer.

What changed · 4
  • Numbers start again each business day, on each till.
  • A ticket shows only what that station makes, with the options and notes in large type.
  • Reprint a sale’s kitchen tickets from the sale history.
  • Choose which printer each station uses, on the till, in Settings › Receipts.
Fixed Restaurant

Readable colour-mode choices on the menu

The Light, Dark and Auto choices on the guest menu were white on white on some phones. They are readable now.

Fixed Till

Till fixes

Smaller problems found while using the till every day.

What changed · 3
  • A long receipt no longer stretches the payment window.
  • The top bar no longer jumps as the page changes.
  • The bell works when the internet is down.
Fixed Back office

Saving an outlet or product keeps its other settings

Editing one field no longer resets the fields you did not touch.

What changed · 4
  • Saving an outlet kept its receipt settings, service charge and time zone.
  • Saving a product kept batch and serial tracking; saving a variant kept its size and colour.
  • Phone numbers are accepted with spaces, as people type them.
  • An error now names the field that needs a look.
New Restaurant

Kitchen stations and service settings

Set up your kitchen stations and how the outlet serves, in the Restaurant section. The till starts numbering orders and printing kitchen tickets in a coming update.

New Restaurant

Modifiers: sugar, ice, extra shot

Set up choices like sugar level, ice or an extra shot, with a price where one applies. The till asks for them and charges them on the sale.

What changed · 3
  • Required and optional groups, with a minimum and a maximum.
  • Each choice can add to the price.
  • The chosen options print on the receipt.
Improved Back office

A product form that shows the tile

The product form now shows the till tile as you type, with the margin worked out from cost and price.

New Back office

Sizes and colours

Clothing, shoes and phone shops can give one product its sizes and colours, and the till asks which one.

What changed · 4
  • Switch the Sizes and colours module on for your shop.
  • Add sizes and colours in the product form, each with its own price and barcode.
  • The till asks for the size and colour when the product is tapped.
  • Each outlet has a business type, so the back office shows the tools that fit it.
Improved Till

Put the till menu where you want it

The till menu bar can sit at the top, bottom, left or right of the screen: hold it and drag it to an edge.

What changed · 5
  • Show products as tiles, photo tiles or plain rows.
  • Categories in three columns.
  • Open the till settings and the day summary before a shift is opened.
  • An opening logo that can be skipped or turned off.
  • The payment window and new customer form stack neatly on tablets and phones.
New Till

Receipts can carry the guest Wi-Fi, and VAT invoices name the company that bought.

What changed · 2
  • Print the guest Wi-Fi name and password on receipts.
  • Put the company buyer’s name and VAT TIN on a VAT invoice.
New Till

Service charge per outlet

An outlet can add a service charge, worked out before VAT and shown on the till and the receipt.

Version 0.68

New Till

A sale desk you arrange yourself

The sale screen now works like a desk: move the panels, size them, lock them, and take payment in a window over the sale.

What changed · 6
  • Swap the sale and product panels, drag the divider to size them, and the till remembers.
  • Lock the layout so nobody moves it by accident.
  • Pay by tapping notes or typing the amount.
  • Write a note on a sale, and choose a customer from a searchable window.
  • Bookmark regular customers and preview the receipt before printing.
  • Product photographs on the tiles, reaching tills that are already running.
New Website

Help centre and news on brownpos.com

Short answers to everyday questions, news from BrownPOS, and prices drawn from the same packages the back office shows.

What changed · 4
  • A help centre with search, grouped by topic.
  • News posts.
  • A pricing page that always matches the real packages.
  • A dark mode for the website.
New Back office

Search products, print labels, see who signed in

Three things owners asked for in the back office.

What changed · 4
  • Advanced product search and filters.
  • Print barcode labels straight from Products.
  • Staff History shows when each person signed in and out of the till.
  • A bell in every app that says what is waiting for you.
Improved Till

Counting the float and staying signed in

Open a shift faster and stop losing the cashier on a refresh.

What changed · 4
  • Count the opening float note by note on a pad, or type it.
  • The cashier stays signed in when the page is refreshed, and Log out means log out.
  • About BrownPOS in Settings, with a health check and a report to send to support.
  • Switch sale sounds from the account menu.
Fixed Till

Readable in every look

Small fixes for text that was hard to read.

What changed · 3
  • The currency switch is readable in dark mode.
  • The top bar and the chosen settings are readable in the Liquid Glass light look.
  • The on-screen keyboard stays solid behind glass.
New Till

An on-screen keyboard and a clearer connection

Search without a physical keyboard, and see the state of the connection at a glance.

What changed · 4
  • An on-screen keyboard for the product search.
  • The connection and the person on duty share one small capsule, with a shape for each state.
  • When the server refuses something, the till shows what and lets you clear it.
  • An Auto colour mode that follows the time of day.
New Security & platform

Your account panel

Everyone can change their own details, password, PIN and signed-in devices from one panel.

What changed · 3
  • See where you are signed in, and sign out of a lost phone from another device.
  • Preferences for language, colour mode and text size, with a preview of each.
  • A teal colour scheme and one icon across the till, back office and receipts.
Improved Back office

The back office on phones and tablets

Every back office page now fits a phone or a tablet, so the owner can check the shop from anywhere.

  • Reports and customer statements print on a single A4 document.
  • Money, tax, sales and receipt settings together on one page.
  • A quicker way to refund the right item in Returns.

Version 0.511

New Back office

The owner’s back office

Run the whole shop from a browser: products, stock, customers, staff, sales, reports, settings and billing in one place, in Khmer or English.

What changed · 4
  • A dashboard with today’s sales, margin, top products, payment mix and how each till is doing.
  • Staff with roles and PINs, e-mail invitations, and suspend or reactivate in one click.
  • Sales by day with each receipt, and the cash difference on every shift.
  • Registers, till pairing codes, KHQR, exchange rates and Telegram in Settings.
New Payments

KHQR, dollars and riel

Take KHQR payments from any Cambodian banking app and price in US dollars and riel side by side.

What changed · 4
  • A KHQR payment is checked with Bakong and settles on its own; a manual confirmation is recorded with who made it.
  • Exchange rates are kept with their history, and an outlet can use its own rate.
  • Totals in both currencies with riel rounding.
  • A reconciliation report: what each payment method should have taken against what settled.
New Till

The till: sell with or without the internet

BrownPOS runs on the tablet, laptop or computer you already own, and keeps selling when the internet drops. Sales wait safely on the device and go up the moment the line is back.

What changed · 6
  • Two tills selling offline for thirty minutes lost nothing and duplicated nothing in testing.
  • Cashiers sign in with a PIN, which works offline too.
  • Park a sale and recall it, open and close shifts with a blind cash count, refund and void.
  • Receipts on 58 mm and 80 mm thermal printers, with Khmer printed clearly on any printer.
  • Cash drawer, barcode scanner and a customer-facing display.
  • Keyboard shortcuts for every main action.
Improved Till

A till that is easier on the eye

A new look for the till, with colours and monograms that let a cashier find a product by sight.

What changed · 5
  • Light, dark and Liquid Glass looks.
  • Each product tile gets a colour from its category and a monogram from its name, Khmer included.
  • Registration, printer and error screens now in Khmer as well as English.
  • A full-page sign-in with a PIN keypad.
  • The till notices a new version of BrownPOS and offers to reload, never in the middle of a sale.
Fixed Till

The till tells the truth about the connection

Two problems found by testing the till in a real browser, now fixed.

What changed · 3
  • The header kept saying Online for up to thirty seconds after the internet dropped. It now changes at once.
  • Sales taken offline now show as a waiting count straight away, so you always know how many are still on the device.
  • Pressing F3 for KHQR on the payment screen no longer opens Returns in the middle of a sale.
Fixed Payments

KHQR codes that scan everywhere

The payment code now shows as a real QR code on the payment screen, the customer display and invoices.

What changed · 2
  • The code is drawn into the receipt picture, so inexpensive printers without QR support print it too.
  • Dark on white in every theme, because scanners need the contrast.
New Till

E-receipts: scan the paper receipt

A QR code on the printed receipt opens it on the customer’s phone, and says plainly if a sale was later voided.

What changed · 2
  • The link is signed, so nobody can guess another customer’s receipt.
  • It opens in light or dark mode, in Khmer or English.
New Till

Everyday till tools

The things a cashier does a hundred times a day, made quicker.

What changed · 6
  • Category and recent tabs on the sale screen.
  • Sales history with reprint and refund.
  • Add a new customer or take a repayment without leaving the till.
  • Cash in, cash out and cash drop, a note counter and a preview of the Z report before closing.
  • Sell by weight: type the weight on a keypad and the tile shows the price per kilo.
  • A three-card tour for the first cashier on a new device, and a sheet of every shortcut.
Improved Security & platform

Ready for real shops

Before the first shop went live, BrownPOS was tested for speed, backed up every night and checked for security.

What changed · 4
  • Tested with one hundred tills each taking twenty sales a minute: a sale is answered in about thirty milliseconds.
  • Nightly backups, with restores rehearsed and checked.
  • Sign-in is protected against repeated guessing.
  • Every table is checked automatically so no shop can reach another shop’s data.
New Security & platform

Your plan and your data

Pay for BrownPOS by KHQR or bank transfer, and take a full copy of your data whenever you want it.

What changed · 3
  • Invoices paid by KHQR or by bank transfer.
  • A full export of your shop as spreadsheets at any time.
  • Moving to a smaller package never deletes or locks away what you already have.
New Back office

Reports and a Telegram bot

Fifteen reports for sales, stock, staff and debt, and a Telegram bot that tells you how the day went.

What changed · 4
  • Every report by date range, outlet and currency, exported to CSV or printed.
  • A daily summary on Telegram when each outlet closes its day.
  • Alerts for low stock, a shift that does not balance, a large discount, a void or a customer over their credit limit.
  • Ask the bot for /sales, /stock or /debt at any time.

Version 0.44

New Back office

Customers, credit, loyalty and store credit

Sell on account to the customers you trust, reward the regulars, and always know who owes what.

What changed · 5
  • Credit limits and terms per customer, and repayments set against the oldest debt first.
  • Debt ageing, and statements in Khmer or English to print or send by Telegram.
  • Loyalty points with tiers, a minimum to redeem and expiry.
  • Store credit vouchers.
  • Customer import that recognises the same +855 number written two ways.
New Back office

Stock you can trust

Every item in and out is recorded, so the stock count on screen is the stock on the shelf.

What changed · 5
  • Purchase orders, goods received and supplier bills.
  • Transfers between outlets, stock counts and adjustments.
  • Batches with expiry dates, and serial numbers for phones and electronics.
  • Average cost kept up to date, with reports for stock value, reordering and expiry.
  • Stock stays correct when two tills sell the same item at the same moment.
New Back office

Products, prices and barcodes

Set up a catalogue of any size, in Khmer and English, and find a product in a moment by name or barcode.

What changed · 5
  • Categories, brands, units and variants.
  • Price lists that start and end on a date, outlet prices and promotions.
  • Import products from a spreadsheet, with a report of every problem before anything is saved.
  • Print EAN-13 and Code 128 barcode labels on 58 mm rolls or A4 sheets.
  • Khmer search stays fast with fifty thousand products.
New Security & platform

Your shop, your staff, your data

Every shop on BrownPOS has its own private space: its outlets, registers, staff and sales can never be seen by another shop.

What changed · 4
  • Owner, manager and cashier roles, with a permission for each thing a person can do.
  • A manager approves discounts, voids and refunds, even while the till is offline.
  • An audit log records who did what and when.
  • Tapping a button twice never charges a customer twice: every action is safe to repeat.

Want to see it on your counter?

We’ll show you BrownPOS end to end, in Khmer or English.
