Almost every neighbourhood shop has a notebook behind the counter with names and amounts in it. It works, until a page goes missing or two people remember a debt differently. BrownPOS keeps the same trust with regulars, but writes it down properly. We will follow SorryBuy Mart, our demo mart, and one of its regulars, Pov Lim.
Choose the customer at the till
Search by name or phone number. Anyone who already owes the shop has Take repayment beside their name, so the cashier sees it before the sale even starts.

A limit you decide
Each customer can have a credit limit and the number of days they have to pay. Pov Lim can owe up to $80 and has 30 days. If a sale would take someone over their limit, a manager has to approve it.

Repayments without a sale
When a customer comes in to pay back what they owe, take the repayment on its own. What they owe is shown above the keypad, so the amount is never a guess.

Who owes, and for how long
In the back office every customer has a ledger: each credit sale and each payment by date, with the way they paid. You can print a statement for them. The customer debt report puts every balance in order of age, from current to over 90 days, so no one’s tab is quietly forgotten.
